Adoption

Simon & Solomon first came to live with me in 2015. I soon pursued foster care custody of them. Eventually I decided to begin the process of adoption. Little did I know how long and complicated that journey would be. IMG_6153 COVID interrupted our progress along the way. Then our family changed as I married Patrick. Together Patrick and I continued the pursuit. In July of 2023 we were finally granted legal adoptive custody of the twins as our sons! Phew! It was miraculous! However, the process is still not complete. We are currently working on finalizing government documentation here in Uganda, while also trying to finish things up on the USA side with immigration, etc. Meanwhile, we are also working on similar immigration paperwork for Patrick. Over the years, friends and family have been very generous in this adoption journey, donating funds to cover the expenses. We stopped actively fundraising for awhile as things were at a standstill for a long time. Not to mention, we didn’t know if what we had raised would be enough, or if not, how much more we would need. Now that we have finally made progress, we have more clarity about our financial needs. Here are some ways you can get involved:
  1. Both Hands: A team of people serving a widow are seeking sponsors, whose donations all go towards our adoption.  Contributions can still be made throughout the year.  A video with highlights from the day can be seen when you click the link above–check it out! This fundraiser allows donations to be tax deductible. However, only certain expenses qualify to be covered by this fundraiser. Click the link above to see how close we are to reaching our goal.
  2. Go Fund Me: A simple way to make a donation that goes straight to us and our expenses.
  3. If you are willing/able to help us with a fundraiser (donating something you make or a service you provide, hosting a fundraising event, spreading the word to your friends and family, etc.), feel free to email me and we can get organized! golisaobrien@gmail.com
We are so thankful for everyone who has offered to set-up a fundraiser for us, and those who have participated in them.  We couldn’t do it without your prayers and support!
